Measure Tire Tread to Know When New Tires are Needed

If tires reach below the commonly accepted tire changing tread width of 2/32 of an inch, then you know it is time to replace your tires. By changing the tires at this width or thicker, you can avoid accidents and maybe also avoid getting a ticket.

If you would like to try measuring the tread width of your own tires, consider the penny method. The top of Lincoln's head on a penny is 2/32 of an inch from the edge of the coin. So, if you stick a penny head down in between the treads and can still see the top of Lincoln's head, then the tread of your tires is too thin.
